Coming soon to Exmouth Market… GB Pizza Co

Exmouth Market

We are proud (and stupidly-excited) to announce the opening of our second restaurant. Situated on London’s famous food street, we’ll be serving wood-fired British pizzas seven days a week in EC1.

From seaside to city centre, GB PIZZA CO Exmouth Market will build on the success of our first outlet in Margate. Dubbed “a serious slice on the seafront” by The Guardian, included as one of only two pizzerias in The Sunday Times’ annual Cheap Eats selection, and the only new entry in Kent into The Good Food Guide 2014, GB Pizza Co will use the second site to build on its growing reputation for Britishness and inventiveness, and showcase its pizza prowess to the capital’s most discerning diners.

We’ve had an amazing year and have had excellent coverage in the national press, including recommendations in The Sunday Times, The Guardian, The Observer, The Telegraph, Daily Mail and have been added into The Good Food Guide and Harden’s. Not bad in a little over a year of serving wood-fired pizza on Margate’s seafront.

To top off our year beautifully, we’d be ever-so grateful if you’d vote for us in the Taste Of Kent awards: we’re really proud of serving local, seasonal produce and championing local producers to our customers. This really is a very important award for us.

You can vote for us here (it literally takes a couple of minutes).

Margate restaurant

Our Margate restaurant has been open on the historic seafront since October 2012. When we first arrived in Margate, back in May of 2013, the stretch of buildings that houses our restaurant was pretty much empty, apart our brave and brilliant neighbours: one selling candy floss, one selling rock and seaside gifts, another offering arts classes to kids in the community, and a great art gallery.

In just six short months, we have a Caribbean restaurant open next door, a boutique hotel opening two doors down, a dance studios set to open in the summer, an incredible gallery space called Parade and other spaces becoming available. We also have witnessed the building of Margate’s beautiful new sea defences, which include steps down to the beach from just outside our doors.

Margate, you’re looking good.

We love Margate. We’re obsessed with our new home. To see just a few of the snaps we take whilst admiring this wonderful town, click here.

gluten-free pizza

We are so sorry for the wait, but we are pleased to finally announce that we can now offer a gluten-free base for our pizzas – which has been quite tricky, thanks to the intense temperature of our wood-fired oven. Many of the recipes just haven’t behaved as they should.

Made with organic wholemeal rice flour, organic cornflour, organic rice flour, yeast, organic raw cane sugar and sea salt, we will be offering a gluten-free pizza every day – but we do ask that you pre-order your base (24 hours in advance, as the dough needs to rest) and that we have to apply a surcharge of £1 for each gluten-free base. Please note that the base is not as thin and crispy as our usual recipe, due to the heat of the oven floor, and takes a little longer to cook, it’s still really delicious.

While we’ll do all we can to keep the gluten-free bases away from the other bases (it won’t be put through our dough roller, for example), we’re afraid we cannot guarantee that the bases will be completely free of traces of wheat flour.

Call us now to book a table and a base! 01843 297700

It’s ironic that a low-cost airline – the industry seen as being responsible for decimating British seaside towns with their cheap package holidays to the Costas back in the late 1960s and 70s – is using a poorly thought through ad campaign pitching Margate against Malaga in 2013. This despite Margate being named by the esteemed Rough Guides as one of 2013’s hottest destinations in the world – we rub shoulders with Stockholm, Dubrovnik and Puerto Rico. Some may have mocked Margate’s positioning in this list, but it speaks volumes about the town’s exciting upswing and the efforts of its inhabitants. We love Margate, as you all know, and we spend our days showing off about its amazing beaches, galleries, people, skies, restaurants, shops and architecture. We’re very lucky to call this amazing place home.
